Portraits

A digital illustration by Laura Leigh Bean of a smiling family of five, including a woman, a man, two young boys, and a dog, all holding hands and walking together.

HOW IT STARTED

A few years ago…

I could not, to save my life, get it together to get family photos done for a holiday card. I created this style of portrait and ended up offering it to my email list—I’ve never looked back.

Commission a Portrait

Custom Portrait Illustration
from $75.00

A custom illustration of 1-10 subjects (animals and human!) in my signature, whimsical style. Your portrait order includes a print sized at 5×7” or 8×10” and the digital file for additional prints.

You’ll send in reference photos of each subject after submitting your order and I’ll deliver a sketch for your approval within 2-3 weeks. Following sketch approval, I’ll add color and finalize for one final sign-off and your illustration will be on it’s way to you.

See sample images for examples of torso-up or full-body portraits.

Please note that full-body portraits require a single reference photo of all subjects posed together as they will be depicted in the illustration. I’m happy to update clothing and hair styles.

If you do not have a single photo of the entire group together, please opt for torso-up and you can send in individual reference photos of each subject.

 FAQs

  • Most portraits can be completed within 3-4 weeks and I can occasionally honor rush requests for an additional fee.

  • It depends on the number of subjects in your portrait (human and animals). Pricing starts at $75/subject.

  • All portraits include an 8x10" print on archival matte paper; please enquire about additional prints or sizes. You will also receive the digital file to make additional prints or fun gifts like cards, mugs, etc.

  • Full-body portraits require a single reference photo of all of the subjects posed in the way that they will be depicted in the final portrait. Clothing can be updated.

Torso-up portraits can be completed from separate reference pictures of each subject. Focus on each person's hair and smile: clothing can be updated for portrait coherence!

  • Smiling eyes for everyone! This is a signature style that I've developed and happen to love. It's OK if you don't, but I promise it gets weird when we mess with it and will kindly refer you to Etsy to find a style that resonates with you.
